Rotary Club Auction
The Madison Rotary Club will be hosting an auction Saturday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Boone County Fair. This is the Madison Rotary Club’s Annual Auction on the Main Stage at the Boone County Fairgrounds at Lick Creek in Danville. The auctioneers will be state Treasurer John Perdue and state Senator Walt Helmick. All proceeds will be used to provide scholarships to local high school graduates, so don’t miss it!
Roberts, Lovejoy, Hager Reunion
Sunday, August 12 2012 at Mud River Dam Shelter #2. Everyone is welcome to attend this reunion. Special singing and preaching will be featured. Please bring a covered dish and have some fun!
BENEFIT FOR DANIEL COOK
A benefit for Daniel Cook to help raise funds for his family to pay his final expenses. Daniel was murdered earlier this month and had no life insurance. It is scheduled for Saturday, August 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hot dog and bake sale and raffles for tons of prizes and gift cards, live music, too! The sale will be held at the McCorkle Community Center (off the McCorkle exit of Corridor G - look for signs!). Boone Co. Assn. of Retired School Employees (BCARSE) will meet Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. at Park Avenue Restaurant in Danville. Gary bell will present the Devotion. The program will be a memorial service remembering our members who have passed in the last year.
Door prizes will be given out; 50/50 will be available and food & fellowship will be enjoyed by everyone. President Jenny Light encourages everyone to attend this meeting.
Our newly retired Boone County employees will be recognized and those attending the meeting will be treated to a free meal.

Boone Co. Chapter AARP meeting
Boone Co. Chapter AARP will meet, Tuesday, September 4, at Black Diamond Arbors at 1 p.m. Trena Hager will present a program with information for Hospice Care for home-bound patients and their family members.
Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the program. Dora Campbell, President urges members to attend. New members are welcome.
Foster Neighborhood Crime Watch Meeting
Foster Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at the Foster Community Center. A special meeting of the Boone County Housing and Redevelopment Authority is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at 6 p.m. at Black Diamond Arbors in Danville.
The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival
The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at John Slack Park, Racine, West Virginia. The festival will begin at 10:00am and last until 6:00pm. There will be crafters, food vendors, musicians, quilts on display, and a tour of the one room schoolhouse. Come join us for some Appalachian Culture right here in Boone County, West Virginia. Renee’s School of Dance registration dates for fall classes- Monday, August 6 and 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. This will be the last registration. Classes start on September 10. Boone County WIC
The Boone County WIC office will once again be offering the Farmers Market Vouchers. These vouchers will be given out to those participants that are currently on WIC. The participant must be up-to-date on their appointments and must bring their WIC folder with them. Qualified WIC participants may come in to the WIC office from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the following Tuesdays: August: 14, 21, or 28. Alice in Wonderland at library
There is going to be an Alice in Wonderland themed Tea Party at the Boone Madison Public Library on August 15, 2012. One must be signed up in order to attend. The sign up dates are July 23 - August 3, 2012. Guardians may bring children ages 2-7 only and it is going to be a formal gathering. Please do not be late for this very important date!
Madison VFW Post 5578 is building a Veteran’s Memorial to honor mothers of veterans and veterans. Purchase a brick for $50. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Thursday at the Fountain of Life Worship Center, Rock Creek. The entrance is on the left side of the building. Weigh in is from 5 to 5:30 p.m. TOPS is a nonprofit Weight Loss support group. Membership is $28 a year which includes a monthly magazine. Games and incentives are used weekly for weight loss motivation. TOPS is open to men, women and children seven years or older.

Scott High School’s class of 2014 will be publishing The Scott High School Community Cookbook this spring. The school would like to encourage all community members to submit their favorite recipes. All submissions need to be turned in no later than March 5th.

Boone County Democratic Committee

Seventh Annual Senior Citizen Bluegrass Night
The Seventh Annual Senior Citizen Bluegrass Night will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m., featuring Bobby Osborne and the Rocky Top X-Press. Admission is free as part of the Coalfield Jamboree in downtown Logan.
Also, on Saturday, July 28, at 7 p.m. “Restless Heart” will be live in concert at the Coalfield Jamboree at 308 Main Street in Logan.
