Friends and Families for Coal
Friends and Families for Coal will be sponsoring a community forum for coal Aug. 30, 2012, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Madison Civic Center. Guest speakers will be speaking on the happenings within the coal community. Come and learn what we the citizens in our communities can do to help fight the War on Coal. Give your input on ways to help in this battle. There will be time set aside for a question and answer session. Please come and show your support and join in the battle to win this war on coal. Madison VFW Post 5578 is building a Veteran’s Memorial to honor mothers of veterans and veterans. Purchase a brick for $50. Renee’s School of Dance
Renee’s School of Dance will have final registration for fall classes on from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at the studio. Classes start Sept. 10, 2012, for ages three to adult. The decedents of the late Levi and Lora Cook Harvey will be on Sept. 16, 2012 beginning at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Benny Turner preaching. Dinner will be served. GED preparation courses
Boone County Adult Basic Education will be offering GED preparation courses for the fall 2012- 2013 school year. This is a 10 week preparation course designed to provide instruction in all five components of the GED test. Classes will begin Sept. 4, 2012 in two locations. Students must begin on Sept. 4 with the semester ending on Nov. 15, 2012. At the conclusion of the course students will be given the Official Practice Test. The preparation course is free. Class locations are as follows: Nellis Elementary School Tuesday &Thursday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.; and Whitesville Elementary School Tuesday & Thursday from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Fall Council Circle
Any child who would like to join 4-H is invited to come to Fall Council Circle. To find out if 4-H is for you. Please come out and join us for an evening of fun. Any child can join between the ages of 9-21 yrs. old or in 3rd grade. The evening will have fun events such as fishing, socializing, corn hole, signing, and a potluck dinner on Sept. 15, 2012, from 5 to 10 p.m., Big Ugly, WV, approximatley 1 mile from the Big Ugly Exit (follow signs). Van High School 50 year reunion Class of 1962 and Roger Osborne Coal Camp Reunion
Dear classmates and friends, we are having our 50th year class reunion on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at the Park Avenue Restaurant, Danville, WV 25053, beginning at 6pm. We will be having a Buffet dinner and the cost of the dinner is $34/couple, includes gratuity and the cost of singles is $17, which includes gratuity. The Boone Co. Chapter AARP
The Boone Co. Chapter AARP’s September meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting will be Oct. 2nd at 1:00 pm at the Black Diamond Arbors, Danville. Information concerning the program presentation and other information will be given at a later date. NO MEETING for SEPT. 4th.
Do you have coats that you don’t need anymore? Donate them!
Winter is here and there are people in our community who could use a nice warm coat. Between Sept. 4 and Nov. 5, there will be a box available for you to donate your gently-used coats. They will be going to BC Residents/Union Mission, which is in desperate need of coats. You can drop the coats off at the Town Of Danville Community Center! Please only donate clean, reusable coats! Boone Co. Chapter AARP meeting
Boone Co. Chapter AARP will meet, Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Black Diamond Arbors at 1 p.m. Trena Hager will present a program with information for Hospice Care for home-bound patients and their family members. The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival
The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at John Slack Park, Racine, West Virginia. The festival will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 6 p.m. There will be crafters, food vendors, musicians, quilts on display, and a tour of the one room schoolhouse. Smith, Dotson Reunion
The Smith, Dotson Reunion is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at shelter #2 at the Mud River Dam picnic area. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Thursday at the Fountain of Life Worship Center, Rock Creek. The entrance is on the left side of the building. Weigh in is from 5 to 5:30 p.m. TOPS is a nonprofit Weight Loss support group. Membership is $28 a year which includes a monthly magazine. Games and incentives are used weekly for weight loss motivation. TOPS is open to men, women and children seven years or older.

Sherman High School’s classes of 1950, 1951, and 1952 will hold a joint Class Reunion on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Holiday Inn & Suites (formerly Ramada Inn) in South Charleston. Lincoln County Fair
The Lincoln County Fair/Fall Festival is looking for the following, for the Fair August 30, 31, September 1, and 2, 2012. Arts & crafts, and flea market people. Contest for homemade quilts, home grown veggies, home canned veggies, baked goods (pies, cakes, breads), home grown flowers, and photo. In the contest category, each will be judged and awarded first, second and third place winners.
