LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Pastor Bill Meadows

September 12, 2012

Dear Editor:

My name is Melinda A. Fannin-DeCorte and I was born and raised in Madison. I now live in Rhode Island but return often to my beautiful state to visit my family and friends. I wanted the good people of Boone County - Madison and Danville to know just how unique and special they are. Although I’m sure they are made aware of this in a multitude of positive ways this was never so relevant to me until the day of my mother’s funeral. I must have forgotten just how humble and considerate Boone Countians are towards grieving hearts who travel in a funeral procession. However, I was quickly reminded as my husband and two daughters immediately noticed how every passing car pulled over to allow the train of cars to pass. I was in awe of how considerate each car and even a school bus filled with young children were and my heart was so full of pride for the people of my home town. No where that I have ever been have I seen such an act of awareness towards those with broken hearts and my own children and husband had never seen such a tribute. I was proud to say that Madison was my hometown and the people and their traditions have not changed since I moved away. Your actions simply reminded me of how lucky I was to have been born and raised in such a beautiful place. Thanks to all who paid tribute and followed suit as my family traveled the roads of Danville and Madison for my mother Gloria Sue Fannin. I will always consider myself a Boone County girl.
