Attention Scott High Alumni Band
The Scott High Alumni Band will be performing with the current Scott Skyhawk Marching Band during the pregame show at this year’s Homecoming game on Friday, October 5. Practice will be held immediately before the game in the Scott Band Room. Optional practices will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday September 16 and Sunday September 23 also at the Scott Band Room. Boone County Fair’s Annual Fall Craft and Flea Market
Boone County Fair’s Annual Fall Craft and Flea Market will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spaces are $15 with one table. Set up is after 5 p.m., Friday, October 5, 2012. Foster Hollow Community Yard Sale
Foster Hollow Community yard sale is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each yard sale will be at your own home on Left and Right Forks, PD, Bear Wallow, Honey Fork and Miller Lane. Hot dogs will be sold on Rock Creek Road (Left Fork). Start cleaning out!
B. A. R. C. ‘adoptathon’
The Boone Animal Rescue Coalition will be having an adoptathon and rummage sale on Sunday, Sept. 30, from noon to 4 p.m. In the parking lot of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison. Boone Co. Chapter AARP
On Tuesday, Oct. 2, the Boone Co. Chapter AARP will meet at 1 o’clock at Black Diamond Arbors, Danville. Trina Hager, PR for Dignity Hospice, will present the program. She will inform those present of all services that are available to home-bound patients and their families. A short time will be given to honor our retiring president, Dora Lee Campbell, who has served so faithfully and efficiently for the past 10 years. Refreshments will be served following the meeting so each one will have the opportunity to socialize and fellowship.
Breast Cancer Awareness Walk
There will be a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Friday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. a the Boone Memorial Hospital Campus. Entry fee is $10 and you can pay at the door. The fee includes a BREAST CANCER AWARENESS T-SHIRT and MEMORY/SURVIVOR RIBBON that will be displayed on our memory wall in the hospital lobby throughout the month of October.

2nd Annual Julia Price Breast Cancer Foundation Walk
The 2nd annual Julia Price Breast Cancer Foundation Walk will be on Sept. 29, 2012. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the Walk/Run starts at 9 a.m. There will be an entry fee for every walker/runner. Shirts will be available for those registered. The age limit for Secret Santa is children 12 and under. If you receive food stamps you automatically qualify but must bring your food stamp card with you. If you don’t receive food stamps you must bring in proof of all household income and do the monthly expenses to see if you qualify based on household size. Rally at Madison Civic Center
Citizens for coal and West Virginians voting for jobs and roads will have a gathering and rally at the Madison Civic Center on Sunday, Sept. 30. There will be a variety of music, including country and western, gospel and bluegrass. There will also be free food and special speakers. The event will also feature a mine rescue capsule. Everyone is welcome to attend this gathering.
REV UP’S Fall Festival
REV UP Madison is sponsoring a Fall Festival, Sept. 30, Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m., at the Madison City Park. Expect a fun filled day enjoying and buying food and fall crafts from over 20 local vendors. Enjoy a free scoop of apple butter made by Buddy Hudson with homemade rolls by Judy Harless.
Bring your lawn chair, set and enjoy the fall leaves and be entertained by area artists, Logan Darnell, Madison Community Band, Lincoln Co. Cloggers, Seth Bunting, Trish Price and Madison Methodist Quartet.
Games and prizes for all ages, inflatables sponsored by Fountain of Life Church 2 to 4 p.m., corn hole, sack races, duck pond ages 4 and under, basketball toss ages 5 to 15, and crack a noodle. Special game events 2 p.m. for strong teens to adults a hay bale toss with monetary prizes and 4 p.m. rubber ducky race, you may win $500 if you have the lucky duck. Other special events are in the works.

The Daniel Boone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5578 and its Ladies Auxiliary are sponsoring two essay contests. The Voice of Democracy Contest is a typed and audio essay. This year’s theme is: “Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?” The contest is open to students in grades 9-12, home schooled students are also eligible. Deadline is Nov 1, 2012—-The Patriot’s Pen Essay is a contest open to students in grades 6-8. Also open to home schooled students. This is an essay of 300 to 400 words. This year’s theme is: “What I would Tell America’s Founding Fathers” Deadline for the contest is Nov. 1, 2012. Van High School 50 year reunion Class of 1962 and Roger Osborne Coal Camp Reunion

Winter is here and there are people in our community who could use a nice warm coat. Between now and Nov. 5, there will be a box available for you to donate your gently-used coats. They will be going to BC Residents/Union Mission, which is in desperate need of coats. You can drop the coats off at the Town of Danville Community Center! Please only donate clean, reusable coats! The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival
The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at John Slack Park, Racine, West Virginia. Logan Civil War Heritage Weekend
The Logan Civil War Heritage Weekend is set for Sept. 29 and 30 at Chief Logan State Park in Logan. Admission is free to the public and the events featured are Civil War demonstrations, quilters, and activities for the children, face painting, hay rides and so much more. Refreshments will be sold.
Hatfields & McCoys
Darrell Fetty, actor, writer, musician, and one of the producers of the Emmy-nominated mini-series “Hatfields & McCoys” will be the featured speaker at the annual meeting of the West Virginia Historical Society at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30. The free program, “The making of Hatfields & McCoys: A West Virginian Perspective” will be held in the West Virginia Archives and History Library in the Culture Center at the Capitol Complex in Charleston and is open to the public.

The Faces of Meth
“The Faces of Meth” – an honest look at the effects of Meth amphetamines on Oct. 20, 2012 (Saturday) at 6 p.m. at McCorkle Community Center, 13 Ely Fork Road, Sumerco, WV. It will be presented by David Vickers, Lincoln County Sheriff and Greg Hensley, Chief Deputy of Lincoln County. It is sponsored by the East Lincoln County Crime Watch.
