Michael Lee Thompson, age 68, of Madison, died at home on October 27th after a long illness. He was born in Madison, WV on August 23, 1944 to Ivory and Clyde Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ivory and Clyde Thompson, brothers, Jack, Alan and Dick. Sisters Elizabeth (Libby) Vickers, Ruth Scott and Shirley Faye Thompson.
He is survived by brothers Jerry (Brenda) of Charleston, Sisters: Barbara Fairchild, Pamela Harper, and twin sister Margaret (Roger) Starkey all of Madison. Michael left behind his close companion, his dog Lei Lei.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he loved as his own. Michael was the happiest when he could take the family on a vacation out west or a weekend trip.
He was a member of the Scott High School Class of 1963 and an active 50 = member of the Madison Baptist Church.
He was a former employee of Armco Steele and Peabody Coal. He was a member of UMWA local 8377 for many years. Landlord since the age of 19. He was a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and spend many hours working at Camp Chief Logan Scout Camp. He was a scoutmaster for many years, an eagtle scout recipient of the Silver Beaver award, the district award of merit. He was also a Guardian member Boy Scouts of America-Buckskin Counsel.
Visitation was held on October 30, 2012 at the Handley Funeral Home.
Service was conducted by Rev. Tom Bias and Brother Bill Cook at the Madison Baptist Church at 1p.m. on Wednesday.
