Boot, coat, glove drive
Troop 5 area of the West Virginia State Police is conducting a boot, coat and glove drive for Boone, Lincoln, Logan, Mingo, Wayne and Cabell counties.
Donations of new or used items in good condition are being accepted now through Dec. 1st at any of the local State Police detachments in the Troop 5 area.
The items will be distributed on Dec. 3rd to local schools in the area.

1st Annual Community Christmas Parade
We are inviting everyone of all ages to be a part of the 1st annual Community Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 8th. Line-up will be at 4:30 p.m. at the old Pit Stop Location in Bob White. We will end the parade with singing, hot chocolate and pizza. Refreshment are sponsored by Van & Wharton Volunteer Fire Departments.

The next meeting of the Boone-Madison Public Library Board of Trustees will be held on Nov. 20, 2013, at 5 p.m. The meeting open to the public.

Public service announcement
The Food Handlers’ classes will be held at the Public Health Building, located near Danville, just off Lick Creek Road, on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, from 2 to 6 p.m.
Please note that under state law, any person or persons that is involved in the preparation or service of food for public consumption is required to attend a certified food service training course. The course will be conducted by Sandra Giles, Boone County Sanitarian.
The Boone County Association of Retired School Employees (BCARSE) will meet Wednesday, Nov. 20th at 10 a.m. at the Park Ave. Restaurant in Danville.
The Veterans will be recognized and Bob Peal will present the devotional. Door prizes will be given away and 50/50 will be available to those choosing to play.
Legislators from our area will present a panel discussion for our program. Q & A will follow the discussion.
Jenny Light, pres., encourages all members to attend. Fun, food and fellowship is always on the agenda. Please plan to attend this meeting.
Foster Crime Watch meeting
Foster Neighborhood Crime Watch will meet Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at 7 p.m., at the Foster Community Center. The guest speaker will be WV State Police Gregory S. Walter II. Everyone is invited to come.
Madison Christmas Parade
The City of Madison and REV UP Madison are sponsoring the Christmas Parade, Saturday December 7th, at 2 p.m., with the line-up at Madison Foodland proceeding down through Main Street. The parade follows the closing of Down Home Christmas Celebration.

Christmas Arts & Crafts
On Saturday, Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Madison Civic Center there will be over 50 local vendors to shop that will have handmade items, unique gifts, stocking stuffers, home décor, jewelry, blankets, Origami Owl, Tastefully Simple, knives, Beauty Control and a lot more.
Concession will also be available.
The event is sponsored by REV UP Madison.
Free diabetes classes
The “Everyone with Diabetes Counts” (EDC) program is providing several opportunities around the state for people with Medicare to participate in free diabetes education classes.
The free classes, part of a program led by the West Virginia Medical Institute (WVMI), are open to people with Medicare who have diabetes, their families and caregivers. Nurses, community health workers and volunteers trained by WVMI will cover topics that include managing every aspect of diabetes, from nutrition to exercise to important tests and exams.
Classes include interactive demonstrations such as a “build your plate” visualization of fat, sugar and salt content for a meal; props to demonstrate healthy versus diseased kidney filtration; games and storytelling. For a fun and engaging learning experience, please join us for a class listed below.
