1st Annual Community Christmas Parade

We are inviting everyone of all ages to be a part of the 1st annual Community Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 8th. Line-up will be at 4:30 p.m. at the old Pit Stop Location in Bob White. We will end the parade with singing, hot chocolate and pizza. Refreshment are sponsored by Van & Wharton Volunteer Fire Departments.

Boot, coat, glove drive

Troop 5 area of the West Virginia State Police is conducting a boot, coat and glove drive for Boone, Lincoln, Logan, Mingo, Wayne and Cabell counties.

Donations of new or used items in good condition are being accepted now through Dec. 1st at any of the local State Police detachments in the Troop 5 area.

The items will be distributed on Dec. 3rd to local schools in the area.

Public service announcement

The Food Handlers’ classes will be held at the Public Health Building, located near Danville, just off Lick Creek Road, on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Please note that under state law, any person or persons that is involved in the preparation or service of food for public consumption is required to attend a certified food service training course. The course will be conducted by Sandra Giles, Boone County Sanitarian.

REV UP’s Down Home Christmas Celebration & Parade

December 7th visit Main Street Madison for the Down Home Christmas Celebration & Parade.

Festivities kicks off with Breakfast with Santa at Hacienda Restaurant 9 to 11 a.m.; followed by Sleigh Rides, Story Time, Craft and Open House at Madison Library, in former antique store is pictures with Santa, Sweet Shop & Cookie Bake Off Contest, Crack a Noodle Game and check out Main Street businesses for sales and prizes. Christmas Parade down Main Street starts 2 p.m.

Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony

REV UP, Wild Wood Garden Club and the City of Madison will be having a Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on December 7th at 6 p.m. at Mike Hill’s Tire Shop across form the Methodist Church. This will be the same day as Down Home Christmas and the Parade. Please try and come and bring an ornament to help decorate the tree.

Madison Civic Center

Madison Civic Center will be open for walkers from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the winter season.

Christmas Arts & Crafts

On Saturday, Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Madison Civic Center there will be over 50 local vendors to shop that will have handmade items, unique gifts, stocking stuffers, home décor, jewelry, blankets, Origami Owl, Tastefully Simple, knives, Beauty Control and a lot more.

Concession will also be available.

The event is sponsored by REV UP Madison.

Housing Authority to meet

The quarterly meeting of the Boone County Housing and Redevelopment Authority will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at 6 p.m., at Black Diamond Arbors in Danville.

The Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Board of Governors Agenda Committee will conduct a meeting on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, Building C, Room 428, 2900 Dempsey Branch Road, Mount Gay, West Virginia and by teleconference. The purpose of this meeting is to establish the agenda for the December 10, 2013 regular business meeting of the Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Board of Governors. This meeting is open to the public.
