Van falls on road at Nicholas County

SUMMERSVILLE — Nicholas County stretched its 2013-14 record to 4-1 as they defeated Van, 78-44, to win the Armory Classic, Friday.

Cody McClung scored 20 points to lead the Grizzlies while Jared Tharp tossed in another 15.

Nicholas County jumped out to a 16-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 34-18 advantage at the half. The Grizzlies won the third period, 26-15 before outdistancing the

Bulldogs, 18-11, in the final frame.

Brandon Elswick was the top scorer for Van, with 24 points. Two of those were on three-point goals. Logan Crouse added eight; Eddie Yeager, six; Ethan Blevins, four; and Ethan Acord, two for the Dogs.

Jacob Hopkins also scored ten to finish in double figures for Nicholas.

No details of the Van at Richwood game scheduled for Saturday were available at press time.

The Bulldogs return to action in January as they host Mount View on January 4. They are home with Valley (Fayette) the following Tuesday, January 7.
