Logan High School always looks forward to hosting the annual King Coal Classic.
If you are a basketball fan, Logan’s Willie Akers Arena is the place to be on Saturday.
There will be a little bit of something for everyone.
There will be a boys’ game, a girls’ game pitting county rivals and a collegiate women’s basketball game.
It all get started on Saturday with a Logan freshman game against South Charleston at 2 p.m.
Then at 4 p.m., the Fairmont State University women’s basketball team is slated to take on Concord.
The 6 p.m. contest pits girls’ basketball county rivals Chapmanville Regional (5-3) against host Logan (5-3).
The Lady Cats, last year’s Class AAA state runner-ups, are coming off last Saturday afternoon’s 59-44 win at home over state power Morgantown.
Logan’s Shayna Gore and Monica Mitchell each had double-doubles. The Lady Cats beat Chapmanville earlier in the season, 53-36, at CRHS.
Then at 7:30 p.m. in the lidlifter, the host Logan boys (3-3) are set to face off with fellow Triple-A team Point Pleasant.
The Big Blacks enter the contest 4-3. Point Pleasant most recently won 67-48 at St. Albans.
Logan plays the night before the King Coal Classic on Friday night at old Class AA rival Westside. The Renegades are 4-1, having lost last Friday night at county rival Wyoming East.
The Wildcats most recently played last Saturday night at home, winning 67-25 over Nitro.
Logan coach Mark Hatcher said LHS is excited to host the King Coal Classic.
