VAN — The Van boys basketball team has reached a season record of 6-9, according to game results reported to the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (SSAC) through February 10.
The Class A Bulldogs, according to the results, had actually won three of their last five games.
Van started off the year strong, winning two consecutive games over Regional Christian and Montcalm. Then, a five-game losing streak followed from which the team has yet to fully recover.
But on January 17, Van defeated Hannan at their home, 49-39 to raise the mark to 3-5. Two straight losses followed, on January 25 to at St. Marys and four evenings later in Montgomery to Valley (Fayette). A win over East Hardy away gave the Dogs their fourth victory on the season.
At Van, the Bulldogs lost a tight one to county rival Sherman, 84-79, on February 4. Two days later, they defeated Montcalm in an away game, 68-65. A February 8 visit to Pocahontas County resulted in a 60-56 victory. Then, the Dogs lost to River View, 89-70, on February 10.
A game at Regional Christian was scheduled February 13 with a visit to River View to follow on February 14. The H.I.T. tournament was set for February 15. Hannan was set to visit Van on February 18.
Today (Wednesday, February 19), the Dogs are off to Mount View before ending the season at home against Richwood on February 20 and on the road at Seth to meet Sherman on Febrtuary 21.
Individual scoring is not reported by the SSAC and, therefore, was unavailable at press time.
