VAN — Van High School student, Brandon Elswick, signed his letter of intent to play Football for the University of Charleston.

Elswick has been a four-year starter for the Bulldogs, holding the quarterback and tail-back positions. He rushed for over 1,000 yards and passed for over 1,200 yards in his 2014 season.

Elswick was also named All-State “Honorable Mention” his sophomore, junior and senior years.

Elswick is an honor student and President of his Senior Class.

“It’s been a lifelong dream to play college football and it’s an honor and a blessing to be able to do so at the University of Charleston,” said Elswick.

Defensive coach Eric Skolny said Elswick is a special young man.

“Brandon is one of the most outstanding young men that I have had the opportunity of working with in my career,” Skolny said. “He is a fantastic football player in all three phases of the game. He is the type of kid that you never have to question what kind of effort he is going to give. If I could take one player to battle, it would be Brandon.”

Skolny said Elswick got better every practice and made the Van football team competitive every Friday night.

“His attitude and work ethic set him apart from others, having all the leadership characteristics that any coach looks for,” he said. “I am confident that he will use the gifts that the Lord has blessed him with to be an asset to the University of Charleston as a student athlete.”
