WHITESVILLE - In observance of the fourth anniversary of the Upper Big Branch coal mine disaster, the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group will lay wreaths at the Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial in Whitesville on Saturday, April 5, 2014.
The wreaths will be in place from dawn to dusk.
The public is encouraged to visit the memorial on Saturday to pay respect and honor the lives of those lost, officials said.
There is no set service scheduled so that family, friends and the public can visit at their own convenience during the day, according to a press release from Mike Gwinn with the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group, Inc.
The Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial is located along state Route 3 in Whitesville.
It was dedicated in July of 2012 and is open year-round. For more information on the memorial and the events planned for Saturday, go to www.ubbminersmemorial.com.
