According to the complaint, Cpl. L.J. McClung, of the West Virginia State Police Danville Detachment, responded to a 911 call at Drawdy on Three Mile Branch Road.
When officers arrived, they were told that a woman had been struck in the head with a metal object and had requested emergency services, according to court documents.
“Upon arrival, the officers observed the victim, Joanna Shedd, sitting inside of her residence with blood running from the left side of her head down onto her face,” the report states.
Officers took a written statement from Shedd, along with four other witnesses, who all advised the officers that they had witnessed Beverly strike Shedd in the head with a metal fire poker, according to court documents.
According to eye-witness testimony, the crime occurred at Shedd’s residence, on her porch.
Shedd was transported to Boone Memorial Hospital, where she obtained five staples in her head, according to reports.
Officers documented that Shedd also sustained a concussion and has one large, egg-sized knot on the top of her head a behind her left ear.
Shedd told officers that she only pushed Beverly back to get her away from her after she was struck and that Shedd never did strike Beverly back.
Shedd’s significant other, Sean Pauely, eventually took the poker from Beverly and Beverly fled the scene, according to the criminal complaint.
Beverly was charged with malicious wounding and obstructing by fleeing. She was released on a $10,000 surety, or $1,000 cash bail.
If indicted and found guilty of the charges, Beverly could face up to 10 years in prison on the charge of malicious wounding and a fine of $50,000 to $500,000 and jail time up to one year, according to court documents filed in the Magistrate Court.
