DANVILLE — It has been confirmed that one man, believed to be from the Newport/ Price Branch area, near Danville, may have lost their life in the floodwaters that engulfed Boone County Sunday evening.

An expected heavy storm materialized late Sunday evening and heavy storms dumped large amounts of rainwater on portions of southern West Virginia, including Boone County.

High water was reported all along Route 3 and Route 119 in the Danville area, all the way to Rock Creek. Areas of Rock Creek were under water, and reports indicated that at least one residence and a nearby convenience store were shut off from rescue by rising waters.

Around 7:00 p.m., rescue units found an as-yet unidentified man in the area of the Danville Park, which is across the river from the Lick Creek Park.

At shortly after 9:30 p.m., units from the Boone County Ambulance Authority and the Danville Volunteer Fire Department were finally allowed to recover the body.

The Coal Valley News has confirmed that the victim is believed to be Chris Ryan, who reportedly fell into rising floodwaters near his home.
