She was born on Aug. 4, 1910 to the late Samuel and Clara Schlaegel in Dakota, W.Va., and moved to Kanawha County when she was around the age of five.
She married Lee McConihay and eventually moved to Boone County.

Emily is a retired from the Kanawha County Circuit Clerk’s Office.
As Emily celebrated her 100th birthday as a patient at BMH, she was asked what she would like for her birthday. Her reply was “to ride in a helicopter.” Health Net was informed of this request and Emily got the surprise of her life.
“They came to celebrate her birthday and make her wish come as true as possible,” hospital officials said.
Emily was taken out in a wheel chair to see the helicopter and the Health Net crew.
Even though she didn’t actually get to ride in the helicopter, to Emily it was the next best thing.
