WEST WILLIAMSON - A veteran southern West Virginia car dealership owner, Mike Ferrell, has taken over day to day operations at Moore Ford in West Williamson.
Ferrell previously had Ford dealerships in the communities of Logan, Chapmanville and Mullens.
As of January 1 of this year, Ferrell entered into a management contract with Moore Ford/Lincoln of Williamson, to take over dealership with the goal of purchasing Moore Ford later in 2014.
“We are just waiting for it to be approved,” Ferrell said on Tuesday from his new Williamson location. “I’ve been a Ford dealer for 28 years.”
Ferrell first became a new car dealer in 1982 when he opened Mike Ferrell Ford in Stollings (Logan County). He eventually transitioned to Mike Ferrell Toyota.
Ferrell said, “We’re open, even with this cold weather. Just like always – we will offer a fair deal and service after the sale.”
“We plan to keep plenty of inventory,” Ferrell added. “I want to invite everybody that has not bought from me before to come in and see our selections. I also want to invite those folks that have done previous business with me in the past to come by.”
As of now, the dealership in Williamson is called Mike Ferrell-Moore Ford/Lincoln of Williamson, but is expected to become Mike Ferrell Ford/Lincoln of Williamson once the final sale is approved by Ford Motor Company.
“We also plan to have a huge selection of good, pre-owned vehicles,” Ferrell stressed.
Ferrell said he will provide the same quality service for those who had bought from the Moore family or even if they bought a vehicle out of the area.
“We are looking for some good employees,” Ferrell said. “We are in need of bookkeepers, title clerks, sales reps and mechanics.”
One of the first orders of business is to organize a strong sales team and an administrative team at the Mingo County dealership.
Ferrell has done business in several southern West Virginia counties in the past and said he would like to invite those former customers from Boone, Wyoming, McDowell, Logan and Mingo Counties – as-well-as those from Pike and Martin Counties in Kentucky to stop by the West Williamson location.
Several locals are working for Ferrell. Two former Moore employees, Tyler Hodge and Mike Hylton, are both in the Finance Department. Both, Hodge and Hylton are local basketball coaches. Mike Goff is another local native who is on Ferrell’s team that has been in the local car business. Several salesmen also remained with the dealership.
Ferrell said he likes to support the local community like Little League sponsorships and other non-profit organizations.
“It’s great to be back in the Ford dealership business,” Ferrell concluded.
