“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

“And the LORD and said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it” (Job 1:8).

If there was a time when Satan’s roaring could be heard it is in our present day. Everywhere you turn, no matter what you read or what position you hold in this life, Satan is roaring loud and convincing to the human heart. Even God’s people, who know the voice of God, can often be cowering in fear at the roar of Satan.

Let me ask you a question. Have you heard the roar of the voice of Satan? I would say that everyone of us has heard his roar in our ear, in our mind and in our heart. His roar strikes terror and fear into the ear that will hear him, into the mind that will meditate upon that roar and into the hear that allows Satan to take root.

What I am saying in very simplest terms I can say is that Satan greatest weapon that he uses to convince mankind to do his will is the roar of his voice! The noise of his roar is always a sound that appeals to the nature of man who desires to do evil. Satan never ceases to roar in our ear, in every attempt to drown out the sound of the voice of God, or to make the wooing of the Holy Spirit go unnoticed in the heart of every man.

I found out that Satan roars in the workplace! You might say how does Satan roar in my workplace? He roars when you catch wind of the latest gossip about a layoff that is coming and many have seen this. He also roars when you hear of a cutback, downsizing and reduction in the work force. It’s not the news of these things that is so bad, but it is the roar of Satan in our ear says that all of these things will affect your way of life. I know that on the job there is never ending flow of gossip. It’s so easy gossip to start that it is just unbelievable.

Not long ago my grandson was joking with one of my fellow workers about a situation on our job. I made a simple statement that there would likely be more lay-offs before the summer ended. I did not know how quickly some of the people who he works with for days that there was a rage as of fear struck some of the men’s heart that they might be fired. He became so angry that he was going to the Superintendent to tell him off. Now that is the way to really get fired! I had to quickly tell him that it wasn’t true lest he ran off at the month and get himself into trouble. Later on we both laughed about it and it was soon forgotten, Or was it? Just about a month later there was around 153 or 151 men who were gone from that job.

I learned that you cannot joke with a lot of people for they are too susceptible to the “roaring lion“. Satan has them so frightened that the least little thing will send them into a panic.

There is one thing you will notice is “When Satan is roaring, he can’t be biting! I know the Scripture doesn’t say that Satan goes around biting, ripping and tearing his victims to pieces. I know that Job had a bad time but he never gave up on the LORD.

His friends and his wife gave up but Job keep on going. Satan’s roar warns everyone around that the “King of the Jungle” is speaking. His roar is meant to strike fear into his enemies that he is hungry and after them. His roar is also meant to scare away anyone who come to interfere with him as he devours the prey that he has already killed. His roar is simply meant to strike fear and terror in the heart of every other creature that hears him.

As the lion awakes he remember that he must find a place to keep cool. We are like that lion, we get up and start a new day and we need to escape the roaring lion and the way to is to run toward Jesus before you start this day. Don’t let terror and fear paralyze you, run to Jesus and run to His Holy Word, for the prize is not just to the fastest, but to everyone who finishes the race!

Next week if it is the Lord’s will we will look more into this Roaring Lion who is trying to seek us to devour us.
