FOSTER (WSAZ) — Investigators are still trying to track down a Boone County teacher accused in thefts in Kanawha and Boone counties.

Billy Ramsey and his ex-wife Tonya Ramsey are accused of attending open houses in Kanawha County, pretending to be prospective buyers, and stealing valuable items from the homes.

Tonya Ramsey is in custody, but Billy Ramsey is still on the run. A warrant was issued for his arrest this week.

Billy Ramsey teaches automotive technology at the Boone County Career and Technical Center.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office says Ramsey is also accused of stealing iPads and a laptop from the school and selling them at a Kanawha County pawn shop.

Assistant Superintendent Jeff Huffman told WSAZ.com that Ramsey is still an employee of the school district, but was not at work at Friday.

Huffman says he cannot release any more information because it is a personnel issue.

“I thought he was a partier, but never really a thief,” student Cody Hayes said.

“I’ve heard some stories that he’s a little wild, on the wilder side than the usual teacher,” Hayes said. “So it doesn’t really surprise me much, but stealing guns and stuff.”

Boone County Assistant Superintendent Jeff Huffman reacted to the charges against Ramsey.

“When you hear something like that, you’re a little distraught and a little shocked that something like that would take place,” he said. “It’s not something you’d expect to hear regarding one of the employees of the school system.”

And while Charleston police are handling the burglaries, Boone County deputies are dealing with another incident concerning Ramsey.

Chief Deputy Chad Barker said Ramsey stole and pawned several iPads and other tools from the technical school.

“We followed up on leads here,” Barker said. “They’ve been following up on leads in their jurisdiction as well.”

And while police continue their search for Ramsey, the Boone County Career and Technical School remains on high alert.

“They’re saying it’s going to be locked until they find Ramsey,” student Kayla Terpasso said. “It’s kinda shocking that he even went this far. We don’t really know what he could end up doing.”

Anyone with information on Ramsey’s whereabouts is asked to call police.

Tonya Ramsey has been arrested.
