Local health professional receives statewide award

Williamson resident Julie Miller has been named the 2013 West Virginia Public Health Nurse of the Year by the Public Health Nursing Section of the West Virginia Public Health Association.

The honor was announced Sept. 19, at the WVPHA Annual Conference that was held at the Snowshoe Resort. Miller is the administrator of the Boone County Health Department. She is also a family nurse practitioner and works in clinics at the health departments in Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Wayne and Mingo counties, along with performing her duties in Boone County.

During her career, Julie has also worked for Appalachian Regional Health Care in Williamson as well as the Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. She is a graduate of D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y., and has graduate degrees from Marshall University and West Virginia University.

Julie is a member of Sacred Heart Church in Williamson, where she resides with her husband, David Miller.
