MADISON — An assistant in Boone County Magistrate Court posted bond last week at the Boone County Courthouse.

Lincoln County Magistrate Sophia Tully handled the bond hearing for Misty McCloud. She has been charged with embezzlement and petit larceny, court documents said.

McCloud posted a $500 cash bond. A trial date will be set at a later time, officials said.

McCloud, 46, of Logan is accused of removing $150 from Boone County Magistrate Charles Byrnside’s office and depositing into her personal account, according to a criminal complaint filed in Boone County Magistrate Court.

The complaint said McCloud, who was employed as an assistant for Byrnside when the incident occurred Nov. 27, 2013, then went into the office of Magistrate Clarence “Porter” Snodgrass when Snodgrass and his assistant, Marcy Cook, were at lunch.

McCloud is accused of removing $150 from Cook’s desk drawer in an attempt to cover Byrnside’s stolen money.

Deputies said the $150 from the office of Snodgrass was recovered in McCloud’s desk drawer.

Video surveillance and a recorded statement from McCloud confirmed the details of the investigation, the complaint said.
