(MCT) CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two Boone County men were arrested late Thursday following an armed home invasion robbery in St. Albans.

Capt. James Agee of the St. Albans Police Department said Timothy L. Westfall, 24, of Madison and Dustin E. Gard, 26, of Turtle Creek allegedly burst into a home in the 2600 block of Furlong Avenue at about 9 p.m. Thursday and attempted to rob five people who were inside the house. Westfall allegedly carried a gun, while Gard allegedly had

some kind of hammer.

Agee said Westfall and Gard ran away as police responded. With the help of Nitro police, officers cordoned off the area until police K9 units arrived. Agee said dogs from Nitro, Hurricane and the West Virginia State Police then began a search for the two men.

Agee said Westfall was found first. He said Gard allegedly started calling Westfall’s cell phone in an attempt to find Westfall.

Apparently unaware that police had the cell phone, Gard led officers to Alameda Street, where he too was arrested.

Gard was charged with first-degree robbery. Westfall was charged with first-degree robbery, nighttime burglary, five counts of wanton endangerment for allegedly threatening the people in the house with the gun, conspiracy, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a fugitive from justice. Agee said Westfall is wanted in Florida for felony battery.

Both men were in the South Central Regional Jail this morning. Westfall was being held without bond, and bail for Gard was set at $50,000.

Agee said reports of a third suspect were not confirmed, and Gard and Westfall both denied that a third person was involved.

Police believe the robbery may be drug-related.
