GREENVIEW — A Danville man has been arrested and charged with first degree sexual assault of a young child, according to a criminal complaint filed at the Boone County Courthouse.
Johnny James “JJ” Colvin, Jr., 27, of Danville, was arrested by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly sodomizing a little boy, according to Chief Deputy Chad Barker.
The victim was reportedly a family member and the alleged crime occurred in the Greenview area of Boone County, according to the criminal complaint.
“The investigation was initiated earlier in the week when the victim who is now 10 years of age reported the incident to his mother,” Barker explained. “The mother in turn reported the crime to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office. The case was then turned over to Corporal M.D. Foster who is an investigator assigned to the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Division.”
The child gave police a very detailed description of the alleged sexual acts, which took place over a two year period somewhere between 2010 and 2012 when the child was between 5 and 7 years of age.
“This is exactly the type of crime we have investigators in place to deal with,” said Boone County Sheriff Randall White. “It is a very disturbing act and we are glad to get a monster like this off the street. The allegations are specific, and were confirmed by the confession of Mr. Colvin.”
The allegations against the defendant are very serious and hard to fathom, White added.
Colvin told deputies he was intoxicated when the incident happened and he does not know why he did it.
If Colvin is convicted he will face between 15 to 35 years in prison.
Barker said Colvin was taken to the South Western Regional Jail in Holden on a $100,000 bond.
(Editor’s note: Colvin’s last name was incorrectly listed as “Calvin” on the West Virginia Regional Jail web site.)
