The students at Van Elementary recently had a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Heart of God soup Kitchen in Danville. For three weeks they brought in canned, boxed, and other nonperishable goods to be donated. On the final day of the drive this small school of approximately 115 students there was a total of 320 items collected for the soup kitchen. The second grade class room donated a total of 95 items; kindergarten had 81 items; and 1st grade had 67 items. The other grades had a total of 77 items. All of the students were very enthusiastic about the drive.
