CHARLESTON — House Bill 4175, the West Virginia Small Business Small Business Emergency Act, has passed the House of Delegates. Just an hour before, the bill passed unanimously through the House Finance committee.

“I applaud the House Finance committee and the entire House of Delegates for taking such quick action on this emergency bill to get our small businesses and their employees the assistance they need,” Secretary Tennant said. “This bill allows for the writing of an emergency rule that will detail how these businesses can apply for assistance and where the funding will come from. I pledge quick action from the Secretary of State’s Office, which must evaluate and approve any emergency rule. We must do everything we can to help businesses who lost days of income through no fault of their own and workers, many of whom make ends meet on minimum wage, who were forced to miss several shifts. This bill is vital to making sure our economy does not take a prolonged hit because of this water emergency.”

On Wednesday, Secretary Tennant sent a letter to Governor Tomblin urging him to request Disaster Unemployment Assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for people forced to miss work.
