Betty Dunlap Harless, 83, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 in Hurricane.

She was born in McConnell, WV on August 2, 1930, a daughter of the late French H. and Nellie E. Mullins Dunlap.

A longtime resident of Madison and a 1949 graduate of Scott High School, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hudie Harless; a sister, Loretta Harper; and a brother, Ralph Dunlap.

She is survived by a sister, Bonnie Brannum of Huntsville, AL; a brother, Richard Dunlap of Scott Depot; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty met life’s challenges with determination and perseverance. Her family and friends will remember her independent spirit, her competitive streak-particularly exhibited in card games, Yahtzee and jigsaw puzzles; as well as her love of nature and her dedication to animal welfare causes. An exceptional cook, her hot rolls and green beans may never be duplicated. She was a loving caregiver in her mother’s late years and served as an outstanding example of how to be an aunt.

At her request, there will be no service. Interment will be in Boone Memorial Park, Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kanawha/Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.
