Van drops Regional Christian in opener

VAN — The Van Bulldog boys basketball team got their season off to a positive start last week with a win over visiting Regional Christian at Van.

The Bulldogs put away their opponents, 64-57, to go 1-0 on the young season.

Van doubled the score on Regional, 24-12, in the opening quarter and led, 36-24 at intermission.

Regional Christian took the third canto, 18-13, before the teams fought to a draw in the closing period, 15-15.

Senior Brandon Elswick led the Van scoring with 27 points, four of which came on three-point goals.

Cole Price added 11; Eddie Yeager, eight; Logan Crouse, seven; Keith Blevins, six and Tyler Honeycutt, five, for the Dogs.

Daniels led Regional Christian with 25 points while Stafford added 18.

Van was scheduled to return to action last evening (Tuesday, December 17) at home against Montcalm. Then, the team will participate against Liberty (Harrison) at the Charleston Civic Center on Saturday, December 21.
