The Van Bulldog boys basketball team closed out the 2013-14 season with six straight losses to end the year at 7-15.

Their latest loss came in the Class A sectional tournament, as they fell to Man by a 77-50 count.

Earlier, the Dogs lost to Mount View, Richwood, Sherman, Tygarts Valley and River View after picking up their seventh victory over Hannan on February 18.

The much-traveled Van team came close to defeating Tygarts Valley, coming up just two points short on February 22.

In that game, played at faraway Tygarts Valley, the Dogs fell behind, 20-12, at the end of the first quarter. They cut the margin to 34-27 at the half. But TV outscored Van, 15-7, in the third frame to take a 49-34 lead into the finale. Then, the Bulldogs stormed back to take the period, 22-9, nearly erasing the home team’s margin.

Brandon Elswick topped the game scoring, with 26 points for Van. Logan Crouse added 12; Keith Blevins, nine; Cole Price, four; Tyler Honeycutt, three; and Edward Yeager, two for the Dogs.

Kyle led Tygart’s Valley, with 19 markers. Villarico added 12 and Zickafoose, 11.

The tournament game was dominated by Man, as they hosted Van Saturday. The loss ended the Bulldog season for 2013-14.
