MADISON – Scott High School senior Samantha Graffius has signed a national letter of intent to run cross country at Marshall University.

Graffius had a ceremony Friday afternoon inside the Scott High School’s media center with friends, relatives, coaches, teachers and administrators.

“I have always wanted to be a college athlete, and once I looked at Marshall’s academic programs, everything fell into place,” Graffius said. “I also like the fact that it’s close to home. I’m excited to take my running career to the next level and be a part of the Thundering Herd.”

Graffius crossed the finish line in a personal-best 21 minutes, 29.59 seconds – good for 25th place – at the Class AA-A state meet in 2013. She helped the Skyhawks finish eighth in the team standings.

Graffius was a state finalist for the Wendy’s Heisman Award.
