The 2014 Scott High tennis team has a successful year.


The Scott High boys’ team finished the season at 13-4, while the girls finished with an 8-9 record. Both teams participated in the Cardinal Conference Tournament on May 1.


The boys’ team clinched the Cardinal Conference title by winning more matches than any other team.


Caleb Starkey won 1st place at the 1 seed. Blake Chambers won 1st at the 2 seed and Andrew Boktor won 2nd place at the 4 seed.


Starkey/Chambers won 1st place in the 1 seed doubles and Boktor/Matt Dunlap won 1st place at the 3 seed doubles. The girls finished with a respectable 3rd place.


Kali Scott and Paige Rollins won 2nd place in the 1 seed doubles.


Gloria Blair and Brooklyn Pridemore won 2nd place in the 2 seed doubles.


We competed in the Regional Tournament on May 9. The boys team finished 3rd behind Williamstown High School and the defending Class AA Champions Charleston Catholic.


Caleb Starkey will advance to the 1 seed singles at the WV State Tournament.


Starkey and Blake Chambers will advance in the 1 seed doubles position at the State Tournament at Schoenbaum tennis courts in Kanawha City.


In the State Tournament:


Singles - Caleb Starkey lost 4-8 first round against Lincoln.


Doubels - Caleb Starkey and Blake Chambers advanced to the championship and was defeated by Williamstown - 6-3, 6-0.


Defeated Liberty (Harrison) 8-3 first round, Region III champion Bluefield 8-2 in the quarterfinals, and Region I champion Wheeling Central 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals.


Caleb Starkey is a senior and will be attending West Virginia State University on a partial tennis scholarship.
