Head-on collision in Nicolas County claims the life of Ashford man By JOANIE NEWMAN EDITOR A head-on collision in Nicholas County claimed two lives this past Friday, according to reports from the Nicolas County Sheriff’s department.

The accident took place Friday afternoon on W.Va. Route 55, at Fenwick.

Investigators say Philip Green, 38, of Richwood, was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed the centerline and hit a van head-on. The van was driven by Lewis (Lou) Legg, 61, of Ashford.

A source close to Legg’s family says Green was reportedly driving between 100 and 130 miles per hour at the time of the accident.

The impact sent Legg’s van over an embankment and into a house. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Legg had worked in the coalmines for many years before starting his own business of heating and air conditioning service and repair, and according to friends, he was well known in the region for his work in both Boone County and throughout the state of West Virginia.

As of Monday, Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek was handling the funeral arrangements, with services set at Rumble Baptist Church.
