Joshua “Shag” Barker, of Chapmanville, is newly appointed City Manager of Danville.

Barker is replacing well-known resident Bill Cook as the City Manager.

Barker says his goals while in office are to continue running the well-oiled machine that the town of Danville is, thanks to former City Manager Bill Cook. “I hope to help keep it going down the straight-forward path that it is on. Look forward to working with the people in the town.”

Barker was approached by Mayor Mark McClure, who recommended Barker apply for the job.

Worked with the Department of Transportation for six years. Barker attended Marshall University, where he was a football player. Barker holds an Associates degree from Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.

Barker is also currently working on his Board of Regents, through Marshall University.

Barker looks forward to continuing the traditions of the town of Danville, such as the Summer Extravaganza.

In his spare time, Barker enjoys coaching football. He currently is the assistant coach at Chapmanville High School.

“That is also when I will be taking my week’s vacation – when we play Scott High School,” Barker says with a chuckle.

Barker is married to the former Jill Lambert, vice-principal at Chapmanville High School. The couple is expecting their first child in May.

Citizens are encouraged to contact Barker with any comments, concerns or complaints at 304-369-7050.
