CHARLESTON — Step By Step and Bully-Free West Virginia is announcing their second West Virginia Anti-Bullying Summit on August 14th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. located at the Schoenbaum Family Enrichment Center in Charleston. The cost is $65 per person, and includes lunch and materials.

The summit will be geared towards anyone working in the educational system in some capacity across the state. This includes, but is not limited to: teachers, school counselors, social workers, principals, superintendants, and resource officers. The specific focus will be on bullying & prevention across West Virginia. It will begin with a presentation by Michael Daugherty, a resource officer at Liberty High School in Clarksburg, WV. Throughout the day, there will be a series of breakout sessions that will focus on cyber-bullying, creating bystanders into up-standers, and the West Virginia anti-bullying week in October.

“Bullying is not acceptable because a person is different, because of their race, because of their religion, because of their gender, because of their sexuality, because of their economic status. Everyone has the right to be safe, and to live and learn in a safe environment,” says Tonya Barnett-Huff, the director of Bully Free West Virginia.

“With the new bullying policy that came into effect on July 1st, it is even more important to attend sessions like this in order to learn about the policies and issues at hand,” says Emily Laforce, one of the AmeriCorps VISTAs working for Bully Free West Virginia.
