I hope everyone had a nice Labor Day weekend, the last official holiday of summer.

Texas Smith, of Costa, and I enjoyed visiting with Lois W. Kinder, of South Charleston, last Monday. Mrs. Kinder is formerly of Nellis and is a retired Boone County school teacher.

Condolences to the family of Elizabeth Bowles, of Greenville, N.C., who passed away Aug. 28. She was the wife of Teddy Bowles Jr., formerly of Ashford.

Sympathy to the family of Margaret Mae Buffington, of Prenter, who passed away Aug. 29 at the age of 86.

Congratulations to Rev. Roger and Shari Kratz, who became grandparents recently with the birth of a baby girl. Rev. Kratz is the pastor at the Nellis Wesleyan Church.

Staff Sergeant Jeremiah “Jeremy” E. Nelson of the 150th Armored Reconnaissance Squadron of the West Virginia National Guard is serving his second deployment to Iraq,

having been there in 2004. He is due to return home in February 2010. Jeremy is the son of Larry and Roselyn Nelson, of Ashford, and is a 1994 graduate of Sherman High School. He and his wife, Emily, reside in Dunbar.

Congratulations to Jeremy and Hannah Hudnall, of Ashford, who are expecting the arrival of a baby boy on Feb. 10, 2010. They have a daughter, Cayleigh. Jeremy is the son of Mark and Kathy Hudnall, of Montgomery, and Hannah is the daughter of Brian and Kim Graley, of Ashford.

Get well wishes to Wanda Kincaid, of Nellis, who recently fell and has a small break in her shoulder. She will wear a support for two weeks and if it heals, it won’t require surgery. Please keep Wanda in your prayers.
