As I say hello to all of you, I do hope that your life is getting back to normal. The Storms that tore thru our region on June 29th caused devastation and headaches for many families in our state. I cannot remember in my lifetime the power being out for so many as long as it was out this time as a result of this terrible storm. I know most people, like my own family, have worked cleaning out the refrigerators and freezers and found yourself in a hot and stinky mess. I do hope that your lives are getting back to a normal state. We finally have internet and I have been able to get the old laptop back out of retirement
I am thankful that the weather has cooled down a little giving us all a welcome break from the extreme heat! I would like to say a Big Thank You to the workers that put in many long hours from all over the United States helping to restore our power and get everything back up and running. They worked long hours in the heat for days on end until that had the job complete. Thanks to all of them

It seems like school just ended for our students in Boone County, but in just a few short weeks all of the athletes and band members will be reporting for practice and their lazy days of summer will come to an end. I will pass along more information on where students can go to get their medical physicals as it becomes available to me.
Also, a little reminder, Students entering the 7th Grade must show proof of a booster dose of Tdap vaccine which protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis and a dose of MCV4 (meningitis). Vaccine.
Students entering the 12th Grade will be required to show proof of Tdap, plus the MCV4 vaccine if the first dose of the vaccine was given before the Childs 16th birthday. Children without a family doctor may visit the local Boone County Health Department or a Community Health Center for the immunizations. Students in this age group MUST have the shots BEFORE school starts. They will be no provisional enrollment allowed meaning that the students will not be permitted to start school without proof of the updated immunization requirements. For your convenience, immunization records can be faxed directly from the health care provider to the Boone County School Health Office. That fax number is 304-369-4165. The student’s name, school they attend, and a contact phone number should be included with the fax. The students in the grades affected received letters of explanation of the new West Virginia Immunization Requirements before school ended.
I know many of you look forward to the Sylvester Homecoming days each year. The town usually holds this celebration the week of July 4th. This year,(and it is a good thing since the town was without power), I believe the town is planning to have this celebration in August. The celebration is tentatively scheduled for the 3rd week of August. I hope to have exact dates and a schedule of events for you in the next column.
I hope all of you are enjoying your summer. Until next time, Remember, if something good happens on the Big Coal; share it so everyone will know. I look forward to hearing from all of you with your news. You can call me at 304-854-2113 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. God Bless You All.
