Hello to all of our readers. School is back in session and life for most is getting back to normal. The busy time of year begins. If you have school age children you know what this means. You have forms and paperwork to be filled out and returned to school, schedules to get used to, and everything else that goes along with the beginning of another school year.

Happy Birthday Wishes are sent to Courtney Coon of Comfort on her upcoming September 1st Birthday, and to her Mother, Toni Coon on her upcoming September 7th Birthday. Make sure to wish these two ladies a very special birthday if you see them out.

Here is the Schedule for the Sherman High School Girls Volleyball Team. I hope you can come out to watch a game or two.

I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying the nice weather we have been having. We have had nice cooler temperatures the past week. This reminds me that summer is nearing an end.

Boone County students will be starting school on Thursday August 24th. Please remember as you are making your morning and afternoon commutes that students will be out around the roads once again waiting for the bus. Please pay a little more attention to keep them safe.

The Whitesville First Baptist church will be having their annual Car Show on Saturday August 25th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Free Food and Drinks will be provided for all along with trophies and prizes for the car show participants.

Special Get Well Wishes are sent to Jimmy Brown of Sylvester who is responsible for getting the car show started several years ago. Jimmy is always instrumental in getting this organized and does a great deal of work to make it happen. Hope you are feeling better soon Jimmy.

Congratulations to Sherman High School for again meeting the State AYP Standards on the West Test. Great Job Students and Staff for your continued hard work!

A couple of years ago Sherman High School sold bricks to the community for a school beautification project. I am happy to announce to everyone that the bricks are now in the ground and on display for all to enjoy. The bricks have been laid around the ship in front of the school. If you get a chance, stop and take a look. The project is not complete as more bricks will be needed to fill the area around the ship. The Senior Class plans to start selling the bricks again in the near future to help with expenses for their Senior Class Trip. If you missed out on purchasing a brick the first time, you will want to be sure and get one this time when the selling starts. Thank you to the workers of Alpha Natural Resources. They have worked many hours at the school in the past few weeks putting the bricks down and getting the new scoreboard put together and set up. A very special Thank You goes to Randy Wells, Jeff Asbury, Jermey Johnson, Brian Brown, Keith Blevins and Bit Construction for their tireless hours and hard work. These jobs would not have been completed without them. It is much appreciated by All

We have a new business in Sylvester. Triple D Auto, Inc located on Route 3, across for J & K Auto Parts has been open for a while but celebrated their Grand Opening with prizes and give-aways on August 17th and 18th. The business is owned and operated by Dwight Kile, Derrick Ramsey and Denny Flint. They offer lots of services including oil changes, air conditioning service, detailing, brakes, exhaust, tire repairs, computer balancing, computer diagnostics and more. Hours of operation are Monday thru Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Call them for your car care needs at 304-854-7929. I wish them the best and hope their business does well. Remember; support our local businesses in our communities.

The Sherman Tide Football team will take on Tug Valley for their season opener at Home on Friday August 24th at 7:30pm

The Lady Tide Volley Ball Team will travel to Chapmanville for a scrimmage game on August 23rd and play their season opener on the road at Buffalo on August 30th at 6:00pm.

Roll Tide Roll. Good luck to all of our students –on and off the field — as they start a new school year.
