Several Boone County mothers upset by rumors that the Madison City Pool would not be reopening this summer confronted members of the Madison City Council during their meeting Monday evening. According to Tonya Workman, several area mothers who learned that the pool would be closing, appeared before council members and were told that the pool would, indeed, remain closed until it was made handicap accessible and repairs were made to a possible leak in the filler and pump. However, those repairs may be beyond the city’s budget, as one estimate thrown out to during the meeting was a whopping $750,000, with $68,000 going toward making the pool handicap accessible. “We were told to go to the county commission and ask them to help the city to fix the pool,” Workman told the Coal Valley News. The news did not sit well with those mothers in attendance, as they have relied on the Madison City Pool for family outings during the summer months. “Sure, we have WaterWays, but that can get pricey. Also, there’s just something more comforting in gathering with your neighbors and friends where you know your kids are safe,” Workman said. “If we, the community, don’t come together as a group to fix this problem, then the town is going to be without a pool that has been there since 1952,” she said. Mayor “Sonny” Howell was unavailable for comment at the time of this printing.

I support the City of Madisons in closing the pool if the funds are not there to keep it open. To the group of mothers who think Waterways is pricy how much are you going to pay or are willing to pay to keep the Madison pool open?

And yes the county commission should help pay for the repairs they spend money hand over fist for the Whitesville pool!
