County Commission applauds ‘Pet Walk’ organizers
by FRED PACE, EDITOR
MADISON -- The second annual “Pet Walk,” held Friday, June 1, in Madison was a huge success with the ultimate goal being achieved as a large majority of the canines involved were adopted into loving homes. “We want to congratulate the organizers for bringing the community together as well as all the participants,” said Boone County Commissioner Eddie Hendricks. “It is important to have these types of community events and there was a great turnout of pet lovers and community volunteers.” Partners included Boone Memorial Hospital-All About Health organization, the Boone County Humane Society, REV UP Madison, and the Boone County Commission. The Boone County Commission employees transported 10 dogs that were chosen by the Boone County Humane Society from the Dog Pound at Fosterville to the event. The animals could be adopted for a fee of $50 to pay for spading or neutering. The Pet Walk route went from the Premier Bank lot in Madison up to H & H Tax on State Street then to the Veteran’s Memorial on the By-Pass Road, to the pedestrian bridge and back to the Bank lot. Prizes were awarded in various categories including doggie treats, leashes, gift cards, dog food and water bottles. Boone Memorial Hospital personnel also distributed health information. “Special thanks to Premier Bank, Madison Animal Hospital, Boone Memorial Hospital and the Danville Animal Clinic for donations and support,” said Karlie Price, one of the organizers. “Boone Memorial Hospital is all about health and this Pet Walk event was very successful.” Persons interested in adopting a pet should contact the Boone County Dog Pound at 304-837-3261. The pound is located on Route 3 at Fosterville, and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, excluding holidays.
