A Raleigh County man has been arrested and charged with making terrorist act threats to a student at Sherman High School. David Henry Linville, 26, of Shady Spring, was arrested Wednesday evening in Beckley by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. Linville was taken into custody and charged with Threats of a Terrorist Act, a felony punishable by not less than one (1) or no more than three (3) years in prison. He was arraigned in front of a Raleigh County magistrate and released on bond this morning. According to investigators, the incident occurred Monday evening, as a threat relayed from Linville to an unnamed student at Sherman High School. “The threat was to ‘relive the Newtown shooting’ and was specific to Sherman High School,” according to a press release from Boone County Chief Deputy Chad Barker. “The communications took place on a social media site and were very specific and disturbing. The student brought the threats to the attention of the staff at the school on Tuesday, who immediately contacted the Deputy Sheriff who is stationed at the school.” Investigators spent the latter part of Tuesday trying to identify Mr. Linville, according to Barker. “Once Linville was identified and located, he was tracked down by deputies in Raleigh County early Wednesday morning,” Barker said. Barker said investigators with the Boone County Sheriff's Office then traveled to Raleigh County to interview Linville. Also, while there deputies were able to make the arrest and serve a search warrant at Mr. Linville's residence to collect evidence of the crime, according to Barker. “Schools in the Big Coal River area of Boone County were running on a modified schedule for the first part of the school day on Wednesday, because of the incident,” Barker explained. “The Boone County Sheriff's Office worked very closely with the Board of Education and the staff at Sherman High School to ensure the proper steps was taken to keep everyone safe. Sherman High School was on a modified lockdown during the time Wednesday morning with a police presence while Linville was being located. Other schools in the area were placed in modified status only as a precaution. The threat was very specific to one school and that threat was addressed immediately. “The investigation and swift action was made possible with a combined effort from the Boone County Sheriff's Office, Raleigh County Sheriff's Office, Boone County Board of Education, Boone County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Staff and Administration at Sherman High School and the FBI,” Barker said. “We would like to thank the teachers, parents and students who may have been inconvenienced in any way Wednesday morning. With their cooperation, we feel the investigation was a success.” "Threats like this are taken very seriously and will not be tolerated,” said Boone County Sheriff Randall White. “Safety of our school children is our number one priority and we will not allow anyone to compromise that.” “Please note that if we felt the situation was not in hand, students would not have been allowed at school Wednesday morning,” Barker added.
