MADISON -- A new home confinement officer was hired by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department with the unanimous approval of the Boone County Commission. “With what the judge is wanting to do with holding cells in the courthouse and keeping the prisoners over there we are going to have to have another position,” Boone County Sheriff Randall White told commissioners. “You just can’t with one person. There is no way.” The Sheriff says his department has the funding for the position, and just needed the commission to approve the hiring. Dustin Trail, of Sylvester, will begin his new position as Boone County Home Confinement Officer effective immediately, the sheriff said. Trail was sworn in by Boone County Commissioner Atholl W. Halstead during its regular session on March 19 at the Boone County Courthouse Judicial Annex in Madison. “I am ready to serve the department and get started,” Trail said. “I appreciate this opportunity.” Sheriff White said Trail passed all the background and other checks done by the department in its hiring process. “We need him and I think he is going to do a fine job,” White said. “We are glad to welcome him aboard.” • In other county news, the commission received an update from Terry Martin, Regional Intergovernmental Council, regarding current and proposed county water and sewer projects. Martin talked about a proposed amendment to the Turtle Creek water project to extend it with left over funds. He said a letter must be sent out first to request an amendment to the project, but he anticipated the county being able to get approval and extend the project and serve approximately a dozen more residents with water services. • Greg Lay, Emergency Management Agency Director, discussed a building permit for Brian Dunlap, which the commission approved.
