DANVILLE — Tim Riggs knows Boone County residents. He sees many of them every day and he calls them by their first name.

Riggs has been a pharmacist and owner at Medicap Pharmacy in Danville for the past 15 years and said being there as long as he has allowed him to not just serve members of the community, but to befriend them.

“What we do is offer something more,” Riggs said. “We go out of our way to help our customers and patients with the best personal customer service.”

Riggs owns the business with his wife, Sandra.

“Medicap was a franchise based in Iowa, when we started out 15 years ago,” Riggs said. “About 8 years ago they were bought out by the Medicine Shop franchise. We were the very first Medicap opened in West Virginia. There are three now and approximately 140 Medicaps across the country.”

Riggs became a pharmacist after he graduated from West Virginia University.

“After working for several pharmacies, I decided I wanted to go into business for myself,” he said. “So I came to southern West Virginia and it has been wonderful.”

Medicap stresses customer service first.

“We do compounding, specialty medications, and we also offer a diabetic specialist in our store,” Riggs said. “We are locally owned and operated with all local employees. We know your name. You’re a person here and not a number.”

Medicap has grown to be a pharmacy with its own identity. The pharmacy is located at 2008 Smoot Avenue, next to the Wendy’s, in Danville and offers several over-the-counter medications, as well as many retail and specialty items like candles, cards, dollar items, Doctor Comfort diabetic shoes, vitamins and more.

They are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. They are closed on Sunday. The also offer an after-hours drop box, as well as a drive-thru window.

Medicap works with PEIA and diabetics “Face to Face” appointments. You can sign up online at www.wvpeia.com or call 1-800-654-4406 for information about the “Face to Face” program.

For more information, call Medicap at 304-369-3981.
