Staff Reports
The condition of a firefighter who was injured while responding to a fire has improved.
David Massey, 54 of Whitesville has been upgraded to stable condition, Whitesville Fire Chief David Hodges said Tuesday afternoon. He was responding to a fire on Woodrow Hendricks Drive Tuesday morning when the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department’s water tanker truck he was driving rolled over.
Massey is a 35-year veteran of the department.
Massey has been in the hospital with critical injuries after a tanker the firefighter was driving overturned last week.
The firefighter was responding to a report of a house fire along Woodrow Hendricks Drive, according to a news release from Chief David Hodges with the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department.
“This is a very serious situation, and I would ask that everyone keep this firefighter in their thoughts and prayers,” Hodges said.
There is no word on what caused the 2,200-gallon tanker to roll. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the incident.
