It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

MADISON – Children and families lined the streets of Madison for all kinds of wonderful Christmas events during REV UP Madison’s 5th annual “Down Home Christmas” celebration.

The event was held on Saturday, Dec. 1, and started with a breakfast with Santa at the Hacienda Restaurant and featured a large Christmas parade, sleigh rides, story time, face paintings and contests for the kids and adults.

Nearly all the store owners and retailers on Main Street has Christmas decorations and offered specials, discounts and big sales as the Christmas holidays officially kicked-off in the coalfields.

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Madison,” said the children’s mother, Valerie Kuhn.

There were Christmas arts and crafts on display at the WV Family Wellness Center and Hill Chiropractic.

Spa Envy offered face and nail painting, as did the Jaycees at Mitchell’s Jewelers, which also offered popcorn and the children’s craft corner.

Story time, crafts and an open house was held at the Boone Madison Public Library, and the Coal Valley News offered local telephone directories and handed out Christmas candy to children during the parade.

Boone Memorial Hospital featured its new Rural Health Clinic, across from the Madison Animal Hospital, and gave away free scarves, 8x10 picture frames and cake.

Entertainment featured during the event was the Debbie Schultz & Family; 4-H Carolers; Flute Choir; Seth Bunting; Renee School of Dance at the Masonic Lodge parking lot; and the Southern WV Community Band Concert at the Boone Heritage & Arts Center, beside the Coal Museum on Main Street in Madison.

Special events included a quilt display at the Boone Heritage & Arts Center, along with a photography display by award-winning local photographer Beth Forester.

There was also a “Crack a Noodle” game at Ellis Storage, sponsored by St. Mary’s Catholic Church, as well as ice cream sundaes from the local Cub Scouts.

Other retailers in Madison offering Christmas speicals, discounts and sales included the Grapevine Shop with Christmas Vera Bradley special, Just 4 Kids open house, special and giveaways, junkies treasurers and big discounts and Past Tyme Antiques and Twice As Nice with nice Christmas discounts and sales.
