MORGANTOWN - After only five games and 15 minutes of playing time it appears as if Makenzie White’s West Virginia University playing days are over.
White reportedly left WVU last week and will be transferring from the Division I school to Division II Fairmont State, according to WVMetroNews.
White, a 5-foot-9 freshman guard, is a graduate of Scott High School. During her high school career, White led the Scott Lady Hawks to an 84-22 record, including three runner-up finishes in the Class AA state tournament.
White played sparingly at WVU and scored just two points.
It has been confirmed by news sources that White has received a full release from WVU.
Makenzie White told Coach Mike Carey this week she’s transferring to Fairmont State.
White, a 5-foot-9 guard, had played in only five games this season for WVU (7-3), scoring two points on 1-of-7 shooting. She apparently believed it would be difficult to find playing time going forward.
White was a 2,000-point scorer at Scott High School in Boone County. She was the state’s high school player of the year in 2012.
“She’s a great young lady,” said Carey. “We wish her the best of luck.”
White scored more than 2,000 points in her prep career at Scott.
