COMFORT -- Deputies with the Boone County Sheriff's Office arrested two individuals Saturday afternoon, May 11, 2013, on charges related to cooking methamphetamine. Acting on an anonymous tip, deputies traveled to the residence of Karen Runion, 27, who lives in Joe's Creek, which is located in Comfort. Deputies discovered Robert Stamper, 35, of Charleston, hiding inside a closet of the trailer, actively cooking meth. Stamper also had active warrants from both Kanawha and Boone counties on meth related charges, investigators said. Two small children, under the age of five, were removed from the house and placed with Child Protective Services (CPS), investigators added. Deputies arrested both Runion and Stamper. Runion was charged with operating a clandestine laboratory, exposing children to methamphetamine manufacturing process (two counts), conspiracy and purchasing pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture meth, all charges are felonies. Stamper was charged with operating a clandestine laboratory, conspiracy and exposing children to the manufacturing of meth (two counts), as well as being charged on his active warrants. Sheriff Randall White says he feels that after several years of seeing the decline of meth labs, they are now becoming more prevalent again. “This bust was a direct result of action from the public and we greatly appreciate their help,” Sheriff White said. “Please remember we have a couple of tip lines here in Boone County.
