I am upset with the negative ads and comments about Gov. Joe Manchin, but also about those that are being made about the people of West Virginia.

Remember the Sago explosion when Gov. Manchin reported to the families and the world about what was going on? He stayed and comforted the families until the 12 dead miners and the one survivor were removed from the mine.

On April 5, 2010, my husband, Deward “Sparky” Scott, lost his life in the explosion at the Upper Big Branch (UBB) mine. Again, Gov. Manchin was there comforting the families and friends until all 29 bodies were removed.

Gov. Manchin is running for U.S. Senate. The ads on the radio and television say he won’t represent the interest of the people of West Virginia. Joe Manchin has always looked out for the people of West Virginia.

The Republican Party wants us to support John Raese. John Raese lives in a Palm Beach, Fla., mansion and get the $50,000 homestead exemption for his permanent residency there. He opposes Social Security benefits, Medicare, Medicaid and all government benefit programs, which I assume includes Veteran programs. He is even against the minimum wage law.

On Nov. 2, I would hope that we will support a real West Virginian in Gov. Manchin and sen Mr. Raese on his jet back to Florida, where he lives.

Thank you and God save the great state of West Virginia.
