The Ashford-Nellis Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 11. If you would like to help with this you can contact Teresa Perdue at 304-836-5948. The parade lineup will start at noon at Harvey Trucking, with the parade beginning at 1:00 p.m. The parade route will be to E-Mart and then back to Ashford-Rumble Elementary School, where they will be serving hotdogs, chips, cookies and drinks. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause will be there handing out treats to the kids, so make sure and bring your camera for pictures. But most important, remember it is Jesus’ birthday! Remember that there may be traffic delays during this time, so please use caution.

I received a phone call the past week from a childhood schoolmate at Brush Creek Grade School. Sue Kinder and I lived at Ridgeview and our teachers at school were Hattie Tagliente, Tommy Hanger, Smokey Barker and Glenna Eastep and Willis Elkins. Sue moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1959, where she resides today. She is a former school teacher and is now enjoying her retirement. I was very pleased to have made contact with Sue after all these years.

Sympathy to the family of Kenneth Hill of Laurens, S.C. who passed away August 20. Kenneth, and brothers Gary and Sterling, lived at John’s Hollow and attended Nellis Grade School in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Thanks to Emil Bryant for the nice compliment on the B.A.R.N. column. Emil, formerly of Ridgeview, now resides in Kerrville, Tex. Emil says he is a faithful reader of the Coal Valley News.

Jimmy “J.D.” Hager of Nellis recently bagged a whopping 12-point buck in Elkview. Congratulations, J.D.!

STRAWBERRY PIZZA

CRUST:

1 1/2 cups plain flour

1 cup butter

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup chopped pecans or chopped peanuts

Mix all the above ingredients together and press into a pizza pan. Bake at 400F degrees for 15 minutes. Let cool for 30 to 45 minutes.

FILLING:

1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened

3/4 cups powdered sugar

1 8-oz. container whipped topping, thawed

Mix softened cream cheese and powdered sugar. Fold in the whipped topping to the above mixture. Spread this mixture over the cooled pizza crust.

TOPPING:

4 cups sliced fresh strawberries (save a few to put on top)

1 3-oz. pkg. strawberry gelatin

1 cup water or strawberry juice

1/2 cup sugar

dash of salt

4 tablespoons cornstarch

Mix gelatin, sugar, salt and 1/2 cup water or strawberry juice. Dissolve cornstarch and other 1/2 cup of water or juice. Stir in gelatin mixture. Cook until thickened and add strawberries. Let cool. Spread on top of the cheese layer. Top with fresh, sliced strawberries. Makes 10-12 servings.
