RACINE A Peytona resident has lost his life in the aftermath of an accident that took place on Rt. 94, near Racine.
Boone County Sheriff Rodney Miller said Monday afternoon that his department is investigating the death that led to the death of only one person, 31-year old Travis Dewayne Clendenin. Miller said the second car was driven by 36-year old Johnny Fauch, Jr., of Williamson and had one passenger in his car. Neither of the two was injured.
According to an investigators report, Clendenin was driving a 2008 Chevrolet South on Route 94. Fauch was driving a tractor-trailer containing steel railroad rails at the time of the accident. The report speculated that Clendenins car crossed the center line and into the northbound lane, hitting the truck.
The report also started that several factors require further examination in the incident and these are under investigation. Miller said his deputies believe Clendenin fell asleep at the wheel.
The road was shut down for an extended period Monday morning while firefighters cut the victim from his vehicle and investigators conducted a scene investigation. Units from the Racine Volunteer Fire Department performed the rescue and the Boone County Ambulance Authority transported the man from the scene.
Miller said the investigation of the crash is ongoing and the lead investigator is Deputy B.G. Browning.
