Boone football players named to state, conference teams

The West Virginia Sports Writers Association gave three local gridiron players from Boone County high accolades as they announced the Class ‘A’ and Class ‘AA’ All-State football teams this week.

In Class ‘AA’ Scott’s Draven Riffe and Jesse Belcher were selected to the second team.

Riffe, a sophomore running back was chosen to the offensive team, while Belcher, a senior, was selected as a defensive back.

Special Mention went to Dakota Ball and an Honorable Mention to Caleb Linville.

Sherman’s Austin Wilkenson was an Honorable Mention.

In Class ‘A’ Van senior Tyler Gunnoe was selected on the second team in the utility position on offense.

Special Mention went Matt White while Corey Agosti, Brandon Elswick and Cody Price were all Honorable Mentions.

Several Scott Skyhawks were selected on the 2011 All-Cardinal Conference team.

First team selections included Jesse Belcher, Draven Riffe, Kenny Green, Dakota Ball, Caleb Linville, Cameron Loftus and Charlie Sutphin.

Honorable mention went to Johnathan Osborne, Payton Hager, Michael Belcher and Robert Bias.
