Sherman Jr. High drops Van 16-13, falls to Hamlin 24-20

The Sherman Junior High girls split a pair of hoop games last week, defeating Van and losing to Hamlin.

Coach Autumn Withrow’s Junior Lady Tide posted a 16-13 home win over Van last Monday. Van led 9-5 at halftime, but Sherman rallied with a clutch 11-4 second half effort.

Emily Donohue (8) and Hallie Jarrell (6) teamed up to score 14 points, pacing the SJHS attack. Donohue hit for three points in each of the second and third stanzas to keep the game close and Jarrell added two clutch hoops in the final period.

Emily Hornsby and Carly Keeney each added one point for SJHS.

B. Meadows (5) and T. Gogas (3) combined for eight points to pace the Van offense.

Hamlin handed the Sherman Junior High girls a 24-20 defeat at Seth last Thursday.

Carly Keeney led the Sherman attack with 11 points, including one three-pointer.

Emily Hornsby added six points for the SJHS girls.

Emily Donohue netted two points and Breanna Halstead added one Sherman point.

Casey Owens paced a balanced Hamlin offense with six points. Four Hamlin girls added four points each.
