She was born Jan. 13, 1935, in Rock Creek, Raleigh County, she was the eldest daughter of the late Ernest and Reba Ballard Williams. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald Showen, and children and other family members.
Her family is in our prayers as they continue their lives without this dear lady who was loved by all her family and all who knew her.
Pastor Donald Evenson and the members of the Whitesville First Baptist Church invites everyone to a New Year’s Eve fellowship on Dec. 31 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be singing, fellowship and a lot of praising our Lord. There will also be refreshments, you do not have to be a member to attend, everyone is welcome.
The Colcord Presbyterian Church now has a supply of the CDs with the church choir singing, under the direction of Johnny McVey.
Bonnie Burdette, a member of the choir, said the CDs are selling for $10 each, and they are very good. She said if anyone wishes to purchase the CDs, you can call her at 854-2195, or call for more information.
Bonnie said the choir was the guest at the Orgas Senior Citizens Christmas dinner last week, where they sang for the members and guest.
The residents at the Mountain Terrace in Whitesville held their annual Christmas dinner last week. There was 30 in attendance, all had a great time and they also exchanged Christmas gifts.
The residents said Gail and Benny Crum, the overseer of the apartment building have both been sick and they wish to request prayer for them. They are now feeling much better and hope they continue to improve daily.
Recently the apartment building had two new people to move into the building. They were Anna Uhl and Llyod and Joretta Pierson. All the other tenants wish to welcome them to the building.
The Whitesville Fire Department visited the residents of the apartments last week to give them tips on how to keep safe. They wish to thank all who came from the fire department.
All the residents at the apartment building send get well wishes to the following, Linda Cantley, who is in the Heartland Nursing Home in Beckley, Marilyn Ullman, who is in the Charleston Memorial Hospital. They want to let them know they are in their prayers.
The residents of the Mountain Terrace apartments send birthday wishes to several residents. They are Rupert Hendrix, Dec. 1, Dorothy Bradford, Dec. 13, Anna Jameson, Dec. 14, Glenna Webb, Dec. 18, and Pauline Pettry, Dec. 30. They also send birthday wishes to Josephine McKnight, who celebrated her birthday Dec. 19. This lady, I was told, is very nice and she treats everyone very special.
